A beautiful, cold and windy day on Equinox! There was one set of footprints ahead of us in 6-10 inches of fresh snow from Friday's storm. It was fun to find out that they were made by two hikers! We saw seven hikers total, only one of them was wearing snow shoes. Our beautiful track up was pretty broken up on our descent. We smoothed it out, and hope the other guy went down last :)
There is still some rocks/boulders showing through the snow at the upper elevation; it was easier descending off of them than climbing up over them. The Red Gate trail was well broken out to the Yellow Trail, and only boots were needed along that short stretch. I suggest snowshoes for the rest, for an easier hike and prettier trail. However you go, I wish you a fun day. |
