First car at Nancy pond at 6am and only one other car at 2:00pm. Zealand was overflowed upon return at 2:30. |

Trails were in awesome shape! Expect lots of deteriorating bog bridges throughout the wilderness area, particularly Shoal Pond Trail. Lots of blowdowns on shoal pond but majority low, easy step-overs. |

No doggos seen today. Hiking dogs would have a blast through this zone. Tons of water, muds, and animal signs to keep them occupied. My old dog Fin had a blast backpacking through here five years ago:) |

Epic 18 mile Pemi traverse today! Less than 2000’ vert on this route and all the uphill is super mellow-just what the doctor ordered after a brutal, failed Whites 100 attempt:) Weather was STUNNING! Cool and all sunny most the morning and hot sun descending Nancy Pond at end of day. First clouds appeared just after we finished the hike at 2PM. Foliage is not yet peak but it isn’t too far away. Colors were incredible today, with reds starting to pop here and there to mix in with the vibrant yellows. We saw two humans! One guy in middle of shoal pond trail and one older gent near Norcross Pond. Second time at Norcross, and Dan and I agreed that it is the finest sub-alpine lake in the Whites. Shoal Pond navigation was easy and kept my feet dry all day through the boggy areas. Cannot recommend this route enough at the moment. Ideal for leaf-peepin’ and solitude. Truly magnificent day!!! |
