Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We met at the Basin and took the bike path. There was one car when I arrived. When we finished there were quite a few cars in the front parking area but plenty of room in the back area. No fee to park.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy rock hops
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Nothing that I can recall
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw several very good doggos today. All were well behaved and seemed to be having a great day with their people. This is a great route for puppers.
Bugs
Bugs: Not much of an issue but I still managed to inhale one. 0/10. Do not recommend.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There was a pair of sunglasses on a tree on Franconia Ridge trail nearer the Liberty side. We left them there.

Comments
Comments: Our original plan was Lincoln and Lafayette but I checked the winds again early this morning and they were higher than we wanted to deal with so we pivoted. This was an excellent call. Both summits (and Liberty again on the return trip) were socked in and quite windy. Last night's rain made everything wet. All the rocks were wet and the trail was muddy in areas. Despite that, we still had pretty good footing all the way up. We layered up right before the summit of Liberty and then delayered once we got back down. There are some muddy stretches between the 2 peaks. There are rocks in the mud to step on but you need longer legs to get them all. We picked our way through as best we could. The clouds were nice and moody and we had a great time catching up. This was a most excellent day spent with my friend. Lots of happy friendly hikers all along the way as well as quite a few headed to the tent site for the night.
