 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Gravel road leads to a large lot. It was filled up so we parked on the side of the road. There is a bench at the entrance, this is an AMC Shuttle stop.
Friendly reminder, hike back to your car, don't try to beat the time for the shuttle. Then the pressure's not on. |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Easy, due to present drought. A few had plank bridges, one was broken. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Excellent signs. Some extremely muddy sections (deep puddles, too)could benefit ftom bog bridges or stones. North Twin Spur was brushy near the South Twin summit. Thanks |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Many were out, having a great time. Remember, they are not allowed in the hut. |
|
 | Bugs: |
None |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
1. There was a highly visible black hat on a tall stump on the spur. Left it there in case the person returned.
2. Almost lost my boots in that mud. |

This actually was over three days. First and third day we're spent going to and returning from the hut. Discussion is for the 12th, Flags on the 48 day.
We have needed to get North Twin Spur for tracing for quite a while. Stayed at the hut both nights. Could faintly see the blue light beams projected from Mt. Washington. That .8 steep mile of jumble was still a workout. South Twin had wonderful views. Took the spur over. A lovely trail, but the mud and puddles were horrendous. Got over to the North Twin flag, could see several summits with their flags. Took forever for short-legged old me to return to Galehead. Ironically, we stayed 2 nights there and didn't see their flag or even summit.
A beautiful observance of the day. |
