We dropped a car off at Valley View Road in Hebron. Then we drove up Hardy County Road - apparently there have been issues with trash at the former parking lot which is blocked with metal posts now (private ownership) so we parked nearby along the class 6 road. Actual start of trail is no longer marked as of this writing and finding the first half mile of the trail is a fun challenge. |

oh dear - Carter-Gibbs needs some love!!! We threw off a bunch of deadfall but no way could we clear the whole trail. Didn't look like anyone had been on it in a good long time. Elwell Trail section had lots of deadfall and the occasional old dead trees across trail. Carter Gibbs Trail appears to not be signed at the former trailhead start (and there is a game camera pointing towards former parking area) so we headed into to the woods nearby and eventually found a very faint trail corridor that was not blazed. Eventually, going from memory and some trail indications, we merged with a well-blazed trail corridor (thankfully)!!!! |

Well, we didn't think we'd see anyone and we didn't. Beautiful ridge walk. Took us far longer than expected because we did lose the trail a couple times, most notable at one of the logging road crossings halfway between Oregon Mtn and the Welton Falls Trail. Also, these trails don't get much traffic so there was deadfall and vines covering them in the sunny sections. Super-pleasant and always fun to revisit!!! Estimate is our traverse was around 7.5 miles or less and took us a good 4 hours. Super pretty and fun!!! |
