The trailhead parking lot is closed from 11pm to 5am I think, which is great for an after dark exploration. I was afraid it would close at dusk. Got here at dusk, carried headlamp. `Nice 2 mile "loop" on super great trails - nice flat soft surfaces with minimal roots - perfect for trailrunning. Didn't have enough time to get to Lost Lake or visit the former state champion Black Gum Tree - so I will have to return. Beautiful light as sun was setting. I startled a deer and a few frogs/toads on the trail. I will have to return as there are 7+ miles of trails here! Kinda outta the way but quiet and beautiful. Mill footings/races were very cool to explore. |
