|
 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Jam packed everywhere all day. It is Sunday of a holiday weekend after all. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
No specific water crossings were challenging, but much of Lend-a-Hand and some of Zealand could be considered on long water crossing that requires thinking through foot placement. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lots of birches falling on Fire Warden's trail. All maintained trails are in great shape.
I opened up a few small drainages on North Twin Trail and Zealand, but they'll need a good raking in a month or two. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Many friendly pups enjoying the mud. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Nope. |

Scott needed a car spot for his ZBonds-Twins loop, so I concotted a hairbrained scheme that was either going to be genius or have us both standing next to locked cars with no cell service. Feel free to gamble on it yourself:
Exchange spare keys 3 days earlier
One person starts their loop at Zealand TH
The other sleeps in, grabs a muffin for breakfast and eventually makes their way to North Twin Trailhead
The ambitious person does a ZBonds-Twins loop, coming out to North Twin TH
The other meanders up to Hale, down Lend-a-Hand, through hut traffic and back to Zealand TH
Whoever gets to the other car firsts drives over and swaps cars out
With no texting this had the potential for two muddy men to be mad at each other with only a mountain between them. Somehow it worked and we both had great days out, bonding over the plan but never once encountering each other. Many would argue this is the best way to interact with either one of us.
Anyway...Fire Warden's Trail has a lot of birches starting to fall down and Lend-a-Hand is very wet. Hike them anyway, it will be fun. |
