Mt. Carrigain - Sawyer River Road, Signal Ridge Trail - 9-4-2026

Hiking Trail Conditions Report
	Peaks	Mt. Carrigain, NH

	Trails:	Sawyer River Road, Signal Ridge Trail

	Date of Hike:	Friday, September 4, 2026

	Parking/Access Road Notes:	We were the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cars in the lot this morning around 7:15am. When we finished the lot was definitely more full with only a few open spots. No fee.

	Surface Conditions:	Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

	Recommended Equipment:

	Water Crossing Notes:	Easy rock hops even with the rain yesterday. We all remarked on how low the water levels are.

	Trail Maintenance Notes:	There are a few stepovers along the way as well as one larger blowdown about 1.5 miles in that has a herd path forming around it.

	Dog-Related Notes:	We only saw one doggo today with their person. This route is a good one for dogs but is a long day. Bring extra water.

	Bugs:	Not an issue and no hornets.

	Lost and Found:	There is a black ball cap and a purple bandana at the kiosk. On our descent we also saw a life straw water bottle alongside the trail. We left it where we found it.


	Comments:	Steve, Chase and I met up to celebrate Steve's September grid out and a stellar day was had. The road walk was fast and Signal Ridge was in nice shape. The rain last night made the trail wet and the usual mud pits were squelchy. The rocks on misery mile were wet but were mostly grippy with the occasional slippery one which Steve always identified. We made great time up to the tower which we had to ourselves and celebrated Steve's accomplishment with pictures and chocolates and took a nice long break to soak up the sun. The clouds were incredible today and we oohed and ahhed over the views. The trek down was quick. Things were drying out but we had an occasional mist or sprinkle. This crew is the bomb. We never run out of things to talk about and just find ourselves laughing all day. HUGE congrats to Steve who now has oodles of time for our other crazy project.
