Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The first gate is closed. Town Hall Road is washed out between the first and second gates. About 4 vehicles parked at the first gate when I arrived. They walked to their camp sites up the road. The wash out is fairly significant. It probably will be awhile before the road is opened.

Water Crossing Notes: The Pond inlet crossing was shallow, but still wet boots to cross. The Outlet was much deeper with some high stones to cross on, but I had to dip a boot between some.

Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blow downs and a few walk-unders, but all easy to get around.

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A camp stove was lying along the trail near the shelter on the north side of the loop.

Comments
Comments: My plan was to do Eastman Mt. from the Slippery Brook road side. In the past the second gate, which is about 100 ft. past the entrance to the Mountain Loop Trail parking lot is usually closed this early in the season, so my plan was to do the pond loop as an alternate if it was closed. It's .8 mile from the second to the third gate, which is always closed and I didn't feel like doing the extra distance. This is where one would start the hike to Eastman. As it turned out, to my surprise the first gate was closed which added a 3.2 mile road walk just to get to the Pond parking lot. Oh well, it's good to stretch ones legs once in awhile. The Pond loop was interesting. the trail follows real close to the water and there are many points of access. I did the loop clockwise, which left the water crossings to the end. The north side of the loop is easier walking. The south side has larger rocks and there was pockets of snow still left. In any event the trail is still boney with lots of exposed roots.
