Bunch of river crossing. Mostly rock hoppable but you’re getting wet. Definitely recc poles for stability |

Shoulder season in full effect on the hancocks. Trail was a mess of mud, running water, stable and unstable monorails. Post holes everywhere.. even snowshoes would not have helped. Some places with bare rock. Crossings were high. My feet were soaked by the end. Bring extra socks and tall gaiters. Bring spikes ( they barely helped). We bushwhacked to the slide to avoid the mess of the the north hancock trail. Slide was wet with running water and sketchy at times. Trail between north and south was slushy snow with a narrow monorail and deep post holes right off it at any step. Came down south which was slick but manageable. This trail usually takes me 4 hours in mid winter or summer. It took us 7 hours today (though the slide did slow us). Allow extra time for these conditions. No fast footing anywhere. |
