Comments
Comments: NOTE: apparently it's turkey season (which I didn't know) - met a hunter coming out on my way in. Heard shots later as well - best to wear hunter orange/pink/etc!!! Anywho, forest roads were a bit spongy for walking. Benton Trail started out terrific first mile or so of nice dry ground. Around 3600' the snow set in. There is no monorail - trail shows little sign of winter use except for moose. Last 1-1.5 miles tedious pretty solid snow - several feet deep with undermining. I kind of wish I had brought snowshoes but was able to gently walk up punching through perhaps a few dozen times. I was afraid as things warmed up the snow would become a lot less stable so I didn't dawdle on the summit. Got to summit around noon and quickly turned around to have lunch near the edge of treeline. By the descent things had softened up but not horribly. I don't know if I'd recommend this route while there's still so much snow.
