Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The small water crossing shortly before the turn on Fire Warden’s Trail was deep and flowing strong. Could rock hop carefully but rocks were mostly submerged. The Little River was raging and I would not attempt to cross it right now. Luckily, I was heading to Hale, not North Twin.

Comments
Comments: This hike started out with no snow. The North Twin Trail was bare ground. The first mile of the Fire Warden’s Trail was also bare. Patches of snow started to appear in the final mile before the summit. The snow was very soft and unstable. There is not a firm monorail. I initially put on spikes, but broke through a few times and postholed to my knee. At the summit, I put on snowshoes and felt much safer on the descent and it was more enjoyable. There is also a lot of running water and deep mud on the trail. There are rivers of water flowing under the snow and it is collapsing. The nights have been above freezing and the firm snow pack is no longer. Be careful out there!
