Comments
Comments: Thanks to the dedication of the local volunteers that tend to the outlying trails in the Mt. Cardigan region, the southern leg of Welton Falls Trail has been successfully resurrected after being lost to logging impacts several years ago.

Be aware that if you go, the trail begins at a right-of-way off Welton Falls Rd., which is home to Fowler River Cutting, a game butcher. The trailhead might seem uninviting to some but access is legit and was coordinated with the landowner.

There is very little parking along Welton Falls Rd. I am told that it is ok to park along the right-of-way off the road as long as access is not blocked. I'm assuming all parking here would not be possible in winter.

From Welton Falls Rd., walk in the right-of-way, staying straight at a fork, then come to a bridge over a brook, where there is a trail sign and first yellow blaze. Here, bear left through a clearing (I missed this turn initially) and enter the woods on an old road. From here, the route is very well-marked and easy to follow. It climbs at mostly easy grades to Elwell Trail in a small saddle on the ridgecrest.

The trail was wet today since it lightly rained most of the morning. A 40% chance of showers was more like 100% during the hike. :(
