Comments
Comments: Snowshoes were not needed today even though the day started with rain and it was above freezing over night. The trail is bare ground until above the first rock ledges then it transitions quickly to a mix of ice, packed snow, and bare rocks for the upper ledges. I had no trouble going up the upper ledges with spikes but coming down them required moderate care. Once you are above the ledges it is solid snow with a few spots still having 3' or more but everything was well packed [until the snow softens again]. A monorail is starting to develop in a few of the flat areas up high. The trail and ledges were wet from rain (not melting snow) so I wore spikes coming down until I was compltely below all the ledges.
