Beautiful conditions on Pierce today. I used spikes both from the parking lot and back down, however my hiking buddy was fine without (I did take a spill without spikes in the parking lot). Other hikers had poles, however I did not find them necessary. Snow was rather packed down/crunchy and covered the ice in some places( lower elevations had plenty of exposed ice) Due to high winds, face coverings are extremely recommended. Although the wind chill was sub zero, the blue skies and zero clouds made up for the chill. Will note that the trails are extremely narrow, and if you do have to stop off to the side you might sink to the top of your boots. |
