The section on the Nelson Crag Tail below treeline is not hard to follow but crowded with evergreen saplings, so I got a bath and some rocks were slippery. A plateau that touches the Auto Road past Mile 5 post is a nice respite before a very steep scramble up to the Nelson Crag summit ridge, which required me to stow my poles. |

I had both Trails to myself until I reached the Alpine Garden junction, not far from the Auto Road. The popular Trails seemed busy on a rare sunny day at the summit. |
