It's been a great stretch of weather for hiking these past few days! Today we hiked Pleasant Pond Mountain from the east via the AT. It's about a 9 mile round-trip, and quite a nice hike. There were a few steeper sections, but lots of flatter areas in between, so it was generally an easy hike up. There were lots of interesting areas of ledge, and some limited views from Middle Mountain before reaching Pleasant Pond Mountain.
There are three viewpoints near the summit of Pleasant Pond which together provide views in almost every direction. The best viewpoint is one looking north and east about 0.1 mile from the summit on the east side. There were amazing views today and everything from Mount Blue to Katahdin was visible. It was sunny without much wind, so it was quite pleasant on the summit, and we stayed for over an hour. |
