Comments
Comments: Started out at 1600 on 5/7. Our trio made a chilly dip into emerald pool before the leisurely hike to the shelter, where we spent the night. There were absolutely no bugs and temperatures were mild and easily tolerable! The ascent to South Baldface was steep with wet slippery rock. First snow was noted around 2700 ft elevation but it was patchy and easily avoidable. Overall the trail up to South Baldface was in remarkably good condition. The saddle between south and north peaks had mud and deep unstable snow in places, postholing was unavoidable. Due to the constantly changing trail conditions snow shoes would have been no benefit. By the time we reached north Baldface lite rain and moderate wind had blown in from the west. The first part of the descent was dominated by the rotting spring snowpack we all know and love. By the time we reached Eagle Cascade Link all snow was gone and we had generally good trail conditions with occasional mud/standing water. The remainder of the hike was uneventful and a good time was had by all.
