Beautiful day on the trail. Jewell was drier than I anticipated. I didn't encounter monorail until above the section of trail with a lot of standing dead trees and blowdown in the woods (just guesstimating, maybe 3600ft?). The snow is soft and rotting, I barevooted for a while then switched to spikes on both ascent and descent. Snow was a non-issue above treeline, just a couple soft 10-20 yard patches on Gulfside descending the side of Mt Clay. There are a few spots with standing water between Sphinx Col and the summit loop junction but they are easily walked through or rock-hopped. Plenty of cars in the USFS lot but only saw a couple people on the trail so I bet Mt. Wash was most hikers' destination today. |
