Trails
Trails: Crawford Path, Webster Cliff Trail, Eisenhower Loop, Edmands Path, Mt. Clinton Road
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, May 7, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The Crawford Connector Lot is currently closed; the sign says this: “The WMNF will be conducting a prescribed burn of the Crawford Golf Course.” The sign doesn’t say when the burn is or when the lot will open again. I parked on 302 and went up Crawford Path, not the Connector.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossing on Edmands Path is a rock hop except one 15’ section that has submerged rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Crawford Path up to Webster Cliff has 3 really large blowdowns (one is new); they all look pretty big for a handsaw (but possibly they can be zippified?!). The rest of Crawford Path, to Eisenhower Loop, is good to go. Edmands Path has more than a dozen problems but most have been delimbed.

Comments
Comments: I hiked Eisenhower for a (beautiful!) sunrise; I went up Crawford Path and took the quick trip to Pierce in the dark. Because trail conditions were so abysmal I decided to go down Edmands as I thought it would be just as bad (it was) but that the bad section would be shorter (also correct - the trail misery is 2 full miles via Crawford Path but only 0.8 miles via Edmands). By misery I mean unstable, deep monorail mostly undermined by running water. Good times. I saw absolutely no one today, but did see two hilarious moose on 302 when I was driving to the trailhead (video will be in my IG story shortly!!)
