Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water crossings were doable while wearing snowshoes. Snow “bridges” were unstable and collapsing, but we were able to locate rocks to use. One place we had to step onto two slightly submerged rocks…one of them rocks a bit.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: We cut one blowdown. There are definitely more trees to get dealt with heading up to CD from Zeta Pass…wait until Spring to handle them.

Comments
Comments: Whelp, we weren’t able to snag Carter Dome on Monday so came back for another pass at it. Snowshoes are 100% necessary, at least right now. 19MB was very soft first thing (snowshoes sinking an inch or two into slush on each step). Carter Dome to Zeta Pass was still fairly unconsolidated as it had only seen the three of us on Monday. The other hiker today came up to grab South and Middle with hopes to also get Carter Dome. We broke out Carter Dome, so I hope he is able to get it. The weather was crazy warm and rain started when we arrived at the 19MB junction on the descent. The trails continued to soften throughout the day. Can’t imagine what the next few days will do to these trails. We had amazing views of the Presidentials with neat undercast. Snow is so high on Carter Dome that it’s pretty much non-stop views.
